How To Be More Sustainable - 5 Easy Ideas.
•Posted on July 21 2022
It’s becoming more important than ever to find easy ways to be more sustainable to make sure our little ones are growing up in the best environment it can be. Here are some easy ways to be more sustainable and can actually save us some money too which is an added bonus!
As a lot of us do now we always give old unwanted clothes to charity shops or pass them on to other family/friends who need them. However what do we do with the clothes which are not good enough to pass on well why not use a recycling clothing bank. As a company we really care about being more sustainable, so we created The Little Recycling Project. You can send us your unwanted socks and we will sort through them and either send them to communities who are in need or we will send them to be recycled and turned into an industrial textile for more information click here
Having little ones myself it is amazing how many wipes we can go through from wiping bottoms to faces, hands…the list goes on and on. One easy swap is to use some face clothes or flannels instead. You can buy these very easily and they cost considerably less than a pack of wipes. You can then just wash them in the washing machine and use them agin and again. It means a lot less waste and actually I find little ones prefer it as they feel softer on their little faces and are great for removing those tougher food items such as Weetabix. When you are out and about you can always wet these and pop them in a container, they stay surprisingly moist until they are needed.
As a parent you have to always have a supply of snacks for your little ones even if you are only popping out for 5 minutes (if your kiddies are anything like mine). Try to buy snacks in larger packets which use less packaging and are recyclable, then pop some it into a small container when we are out and about. As the weather has been so lovely recently we have also been having a lot of picnics. A great way of reducing waste is to use Tupperware rather than foil or sandwich bags. They are also great for little ones as you can use them as little plates.
Brushing teeth is part of our daily routine. Another way you can be more sustainable is to swap your normal plastic toothbrush for a bamboo one. I find my children seem to go through their toothbrushes a lot faster than the grown ups do. Mainly because they always want to brush their teeth themselves, which normally results in chewing their toothbrush. By swapping to a bamboo toothbrush which is biodegradable you can definitely help use less plastic. You can also get a variety of colours which will help entice your children to want to brush their teeth. They also don’t cost any more than a plastic toothbrush so it really is a win win.
Nappies are such a big factor when it comes to sustainability by swapping your nappies to reusable ones you can really make a huge difference. In some areas they are actually offering these for free - check with your local NCT group or children's centre for more details. They are very happy to supply you with some to try them out to see if it’s something you and your little one like. If you think reusable nappies are not for you. You can also now get biodegradable nappies and nappy sacks. It is definitely worth looking into as a nappy takes on average 500 years to decompose.
I hope this has given you some helpful tips on small changes you can make to make a huge impact on the world!
